Tilth

If you are being migrated

Moving off Gatekeeper.

Gatekeeper and TELUS Farm Management customers are being moved onto TELUS Crop Management. Whether you go there or have a look around first, this is what to get out and what to check, and then, plainly, what bringing a farm into Tilth actually involves.

What is happening, in their words

TELUS bought Proagrica, and with it Farmplan and Gatekeeper, in 2024. Farmplan's own migration notes say the move to TELUS Crop Management “will start from mid-2025”, that it carries the business structure across “for up to 10 years”, and that “pricing information will not be migrated”.

None of that is a criticism. A desktop program moving to the cloud is a sensible thing to do and most of the industry has already done it. But it is the moment a farm actually looks at what it is using, because it has to do some work either way, and that is why this page exists.

Checked on 07/09/2026 against Farmplan's migration FAQs and TELUS's own migration page. Tilth has nothing to do with either company.

What to check before you move anything, anywhere

This list is worth working through whichever way you go, including staying put. None of it is about Tilth.

Get a copy of your own data out, before anything moves
Not a report and not a PDF. The records themselves, in a file you can open without their software: a spreadsheet of the diary, and the field boundaries as a shapefile. Do it while the old system is still in front of you and working. If you never need it, you have lost an afternoon. If you do need it, you cannot go back and get it.
Check how far back it goes
Farmplan's own migration notes say the move carries the business structure across “for up to 10 years”. Ask what that means for a farm with older records than that, and where they will be afterwards.
Check the spray records carry every box
An assurance assessment wants the tank mix with MAPP numbers and rates, who sprayed, the times, the weather, water volume, growth stage, the reason, the LERAP decision and the harvest interval. A record that arrives missing two of those is not a record any more. Open a handful of old ones on the far side and look.
Check the stewardship options and the shapes you have drawn
Margins, plots, buffer strips and hedge runs are drawings, and drawings are the thing most likely to be left behind in a move. If they do not come across you are drawing them all again off an aerial photograph.
Ask what it will cost at the next renewal, in writing
Farmplan say pricing information is not migrated and that your next renewal fee will align with your current agreement. That is a statement about the next one. Ask about the one after it.

What coming into Tilth actually involves

Said straight, including the part that is work.

The boundaries: a minute

Type your SBI and every registered parcel arrives from the RPA with its reference and its published area. If your boundaries have been corrected somewhere else and you want to keep the corrections, a shapefile or GeoJSON comes in instead, and that route carries your drawn scheme option areas with it, so margins and plots do not have to be drawn again.

The stewardship agreement: a minute

Feed it the agreement document and the options land on the fields they belong to, with their rates and what each field is worth.

The old records: honestly, work

There is no button that reads a Gatekeeper database. I am not going to pretend otherwise, and I would not trust a one-person product that claimed it without showing you it working on your own file.

What people actually do is start the new cropping year in Tilth, which is a clean line, and keep the old years where they are as the spreadsheet and boundary files from the first check on this page. Your history stays readable and nothing has to be retyped. If you have a Gatekeeper export in front of you and want to talk about getting it in, say so: that is the sort of thing a small product can actually do something about.

The bit that made this exist

My partner tried to get her own yield data out for a trial and could not simply download it. She had to ask the software supplier for an offline copy she could use outside their platform, and wait. She got it in the end, but by then it had stopped feeling like hers.

So the one rule here is that your data is yours. It is never sold, never shared and never used to sell you anything. If you stop paying, the farm goes read only and the export keeps working, forever. And the price is on the website where you can read it without giving anybody your phone number.

Have a look before you decide anything

The beta is free while it lasts. Put one field in and see whether it fits how you work.
